What Can “Streeties” Teach Us About Companion Dogs?

In Western society, the number of dogs kept as pets has risen exponentially over the years. Dogs were bred expressly for specific purposes of hunting, guarding, sport, and/or companionship. The rapid growth in pet popularity emerged in the 19th century. This coincided with the urbanization of the emerging middle class. This growing love of pets has matured into a consumer-rich industry of luxury pet products and services.
